It's Time to Get S.A.L.T.ed Down

Salt is important in connection with maintaining our life and health. In the bloodstream there is always an exact percentage of salt, and any great plus or minus variation of this amount would result in sickness or death. It helps to maintain life in our bodies. Seawater, which is salty, will support much more organic life than fresh water. It preserves as well as hinders spoilage. It flavors our food, making it palatable.

The Scriptures refer to it as:

a)  A healing and cleansing aid: (II Kings 2:20-21).

b)  Wisdom in speech: (Colossians 4:6)

c)  A binding covenant: (Leviticus 2:13; II Chronicles 13:5)

d)  Soundness: (Luke 14:34-35)

e)  Satisfaction: (Job 6:6)

f)   Acceptable sacrifices: (Ezekiel 43:21-27)

g)  A bond of friendship: (Ezra 4:14 ASV)

h)  Explains how fire purifies from corruption, but salt preserves Christians from falling into corruption: (Mark 9:49)

i)   Useful: (Mark 9:50a)

j)   Evidence of grace in the heart: (Mark 9:50b)

k)  Peace: (Mark 9:50c)

l) The beatitudes describe the essential character of kingdom citizens, and the metaphor of salt indicates the citizens’ influence for good as they penetrate secular society: (Matthew 5:13).

Salt was a sign of God’s covenant with Israel. It is a preservative, a flavor enhancer, and a purifying agent. Jews called the Law (our standard for life) the salt of the earth. Jesus said that His disciples exerted this influence. 

Just as salt flavors and preserves food, you are to preserve the good in the world, help keep it from spoiling and bring new flavor to life. This requires careful planning, willing sacrifice, and unswerving commitment to The Kingdom of God!

To set the standard for single living, you have to ask yourself; how willing are you to allow the Holy Spirit to enhance your flavor?

Most Christian singles know that the Bible is the answer, but in the back of their mind, they have so many unanswered questions that it’s hard for them to believe it.

That’s a good question. Most people date because that’s what the world’s system has taught them to do all of their lives. I think the real question is; does the Bible show Christians a better system to follow so I can know who’s right for me? And the answer is “yes!”
